Loud music is harmful to hearing. This is a fact of which a large part of the Swiss population is aware. Or so it would seem, at least. Nevertheless, the majority do not protect their hearing when visiting a club or concert. The aim of this study is to elicit individual cognitive causes for this behaviour. In particular, it should be investigated whether the persons concerned subjectively consider their objectively harmful behaviour to be dangerous at all. Subjects are interviewed directly during concert events in order to relate subjective assessments to real behaviour. The study is designed to show efficient prevention approaches for hearing protection and risk behaviour. This is done with the aim of increasing the rate of hearing protection use in the longer term and thus counteracting hearing damage.
