Results of the survey among experts

Professionals from the educational, health and social sector in Switzerland still are little familiar with the phenomenon of young carers. This is the result of a Swiss-wide survey that was carried out within the framework of the research project “Children, adolescents and young adults as family carers in Switzerland” under the direction of Prof. Dr. iur. Agnes Leu, program manager "Young Carers" at Careum Research. All together 3518 professionals have taken part in the survey. 56 percent of it knew no technical terms to the description of children, adolescents and young adults providing care and support for relatives.

The participants of the survey judged an anonymous first point of contact, specified experts for young carers and young adult carers as well as concrete support at home as especially sensible support measures for affected children, adolescents and young adults. The professionals themselves wish to have a specified office for young carers and young adult carers as well as more information about them. The results of the survey together with the knowledge from national and international projects form the basis for practically oriented recommendations for professionals and for continuing political measures in Switzerland. Careum research has summarised the survey results with graphics on a flyer in German, French and Italian.
